South Fork is located in Southwestern Colorado, at an elevation of 8,200 ft, where the Rio Grande joins its south fork on the western side of the San Luis Valley. The heart of town is located at the intersection of Hwy 160 and 149. Surrounded by nearly 2 million acres of National Forest, including the San Juan and Rio Grande, this bustling community offers unique shops, galleries and outdoor equipment suppliers. What is the weather like?
South Fork has a moderate year round climate. However, keep in mind the following saying, if you don't like the weather in Colorado, wait 5 minutes and it will change. Summer temperatures range from 40-50° at night to 75-85° during the day, light breezes usually keep temperatures relatively mild. Precipitation is variable with an average of 15.8 inches/year, and 80 inches of snow/year. We are also blessed with more than 300 days of sunshine a year, making this an ideal area for outdoor enthusiasts.

Government
South Fork is a statutory town, incorporated in 1992, governed by the citizens who elect a seven-member board consisting of a mayor and six trustees every other even numbered year on the first Tuesday in April. Mission Statement: To be responsive to our citizens, balancing the needs of all sectors of the community. To provide effective local control of growth and development through leadership and planning. To provide quality services in the most cost effective manner.
Town Meetings are held every 2nd Thursday of the month. Planning and zoning meets on the last Wednesday and Municipal Court is held the 3rd Thursday of the month.

South Fork encompasses roughly 3 square miles and is one of three towns located within Rio Grande County, the county seat is located in Del Norte, 17 miles to the east.
