Eclectic Fiber Arts

Innovative Designs by
Darlene Danko

As reflected in my business name, "Eclectic Fiber Arts", my work is a blend of various cultures and techniques expressed in different media.  Always fascinated by the impact of color and texture on the eye and spirit, I have gradually evolved from a primary interest in weaving to my present focus on surface design in wearable art.  My studies of Japanese textile techniques and of Native American designs, mythologies and techniques have enabled me to produce a unique style of art.  As a 'colorest', I constantly strive for those exciting color combinations which will make my work a delight to both the wearer and observer.

My current work includes weaving, painted and dyed warps, painted and shibori dyed silk, surface design, soft sculpture, polymer clay jewelry, beaded jewelry, hand made paper and basketry.  Most of my dye work involves the use of earth pigments gathered locally and natural dyes.

My collection includes handwoven jackets, vests, dresses and suits.  Silk fabrics which are hand dyed, painted, stamped and stenciled are then transformed into one of a kind jackets and vests.  Functional and decorative textiles for the home include rugs, place mats, towels, pillows, Indian dolls and soft sculpture animals.  Beaded jewelry includes necklaces, earrings and bracelets constructed with semi-precious gemstones, silver and Austrian crystal.
