Summer Horseback Riding - Day Rides
Summer Day Rides are perfect for those who want to spend a single day in the high country. There are several activities available on day rides. One includes taking in the breathtaking views only visible while on the back of a horse. If you are into photography, Long Ridge Outfitters can get you to vantage points that are some of the best in the country. For those who want to see wildlife, we have some of the best. Elk, deer and moose are just some of the animals that may roam by while on your day trip. And for Anglers, we are your taxi service to high country streams and lakes. Note, we DO NOT offer guided fishing. We leave the fun of catching and netting to you -- we simply get you to the water where a fifty fish day is very common. Brook Trout, Cutthroat and a few Browns are all just a short ride away.
Day Rides include trips to Upper Rio Grande Valley and Ruby Lake.
Summer Wilderness Pack Trips
For Fisherman, Nature Enthusiasts and Wildlife Photographers, Long Ridge Outfitters offers overnight Wilderness Pack Trips into the beautiful high-country of the Weminuche Wilderness area, within the San Juan Mountains. We have a high quality herd of reliable, experienced trail horses that make for a high-country experience the whole family will enjoy. Trips include the use of our horses, tack, sleeping tents, three hearty meals and basic riding lessons.
Minimum 3 days and 2 nights • Our trips begin in June and continue through September
Backpacking Camps
If horses aren’t your thing, we offer back packing trips as well. You enjoy your trek in the wilderness and we will be waiting for you at the campsite!
Non-Guided Fishing Opportunities
For anglers, Long Ridge Outfitters is your taxi service to high country streams and lakes!
We DO NOT offer guided fishing. We leave the fun of catching and netting to you -- we simply get you to the water where a fifty-fish day is very common. Brook Trout, Cutthroat and a few Browns are all just a short ride away.
If you plan on fishing, it is recommended that all rods be sectional, i.e. 3 or 4-piece pack style, for ease of transportation. Light and Ultra-light rods are suitable for stream and alpine lake fishing. Bring assorted dry flies and small nymphs, or suitable spinners for spin casting.
Guided Hunting Trip
Fully Guided Hunts
Long Ridge Outfitters fully guided hunts will be a two to one ratio or one to one ratio ... with guides who have hunted this area for years to a camp that will be second to none. LRO will provide almost all your needs for these hunts. Camp will be accessed by horse or hike which ever the client would like. The hunting areas are just a short hike or ride from base camp.
We will be offering two different camps for our fully guided hunts. Both camps will have sleeping tents for hunters and cook tents for eating. Both are in quality areas with great hunting possibilities. All hunters will need to bring will be their personal gear, rifle, ammunition, bow, arrows, sleeping bag, and game bags. A short list of recommended gear will be provided upon booking.
Semi Guided Hunts
LRO will also be offering Semi-Guided hunts for hunters who want to hunt alone but have all the comforts of a full camp. We will provide a cook and a wrangler with these camps. Breakfast will ready before the day’s hunt, and we will get hunters to where they want to hunt in the morning and drop them off. When the hunt is over for the day a hot meal will be waiting for them at camp. All hunters will need to bring is their personal gear, rifle, ammunition, bow, arrows, sleeping bag, and game bags. A short list of recommended gear will be provided upon booking.
Spike Camps
LRO will also provide spike camps as needed for our fully and semi-guided hunts. Spike camps will be small camps with fewer comforts, but provide the obvious advantage of being in the middle of a specific hunting area. No open fires will be allowed in spike camps. Food and tents will be provided. A short list of recommended personal gear will be provided upon booking.
Day Hunts
LRO also provides day hunts in great hunting areas that are easily accessed by foot or horseback from Freemons Guest Ranch. This option is also preferred for hunters who draw later seasons when the snow is too deep to get into the backcountry. A short list of recommended gear will be provided upon booking.
